Fox News Media’s new faith-based audio series, The Life of Jesus Podcast, is gaining attention for its cinematic retelling of the Gospel story — and for the unexpected conversation it has sparked among both Christian audiences and Hollywood voices.

Released through Fox Faith and hosted by Fox & Friends co-host Ainsley Earhardt, the 52-episode podcast walks listeners through the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ using dramatized narration. Designed to make Scripture accessible through storytelling, the series features professional voice performances intended to immerse listeners in the biblical narrative.

Shortly after the podcast’s launch, however, several well-known actors whose voices appear in the series shared that they were surprised to learn they were associated with the project. Actress Kristen Bell, credited as the voice of Mary Magdalene, along with Brian Cox, Malcolm McDowell, and others, reportedly did not realize their performances would be used in a newly branded Fox News podcast.

According to representatives, the audio used in The Life of Jesus Podcast was originally recorded more than a decade ago for The Truth & Life Dramatized Audio Bible, a 2010 project that brought together actors to narrate Scripture. While the recordings were later licensed and repurposed, some actors say they were not personally notified ahead of the podcast’s release.

Fox News Media has responded by stating that the podcast was produced through a valid licensing agreement with the original audio’s rights holder, maintaining that the use of the performances was contractually approved.

For many in the faith community, the moment has opened a broader conversation about transparency, communication, and ethics in faith-based media — especially as older content finds new life in today’s podcast-driven landscape. While some have focused on the surprise surrounding the casting, others have emphasized the heart of the project: sharing the story of Jesus with a wide audience.

As The Life of Jesus Podcast continues to reach listeners seeking Gospel-centered content, the situation serves as a reminder that faith storytelling thrives best when paired with clarity, respect, and care — values that reflect the message at the center of the story itself.
